Dear Readers,
Welcome to the first issue of Register and Context.
Publishing articles which deal with language use in occupational settings, this new, peer-reviewed journal follows the current trend in scientific publishing by being completely open access - thus making scholarly work available to a wider audience.
Aiming for quality rather than quantity, Janet Ainsworth's paper on police officer swearing in police/citizen interactions is the first article in this first issue. The article reports on the findings of an investigation into the linguistic practices of the police and is a worthwhile contribution to the literature on police/citizen interactions, discussing why citizens' consent to police searches could be a product of coercion.
With this first article, Register and Context is off to a good start. We hope that this encourages readers to become authors and with your contributions, we will be able to deliver more articles to even more readers.
With best wishes,
Khanh Duc Kuttig
